801 Chophouse is the real deal. Since 1993, 801 delivers on big city Steakhouse vibes with large portions, Prime steaks, seafood and chops while still capturing the Midwest vibes of the 801 small chain feel. Located in Cherry Creek Mall off 1st Ave, 801 Chophouse welcomes you with a giant gold steer at the front door to warn all who enter! With locations in Des Moines, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Omaha, Leawood KS, St Louis and thankfully, Denver- This small restaurant group knows what they are doing when it comes to cooking meat.
The Food and Drink
801's menu is downright mouthwatering. They offer well nice sized dishes at an upper level price point- however, you do not feel short changed and portions are appropriate for sharing across all categories. They offer a fantastic array of appetizers, salads, Steaks and chops, Seafood, sides and specials. Specials usually include Fish, seasonal appetizers and a few options for fresh Seafood towers.
In my several times at the restaurant, I've had some favorites like a special Wagyu Ribeye, Shrimp Cocktail, Charred Spanish Octopus, Tuna Tartare, Oysters, Caesar Salad, great martinis and fantastic wine.
On this visit, we started with a seasonal watermelon salad. while it sounds fresh and summery, the bright red watermelon was the juiciest I had ever had. The kitchen uses a press to condense the watermelon down and deliver on this amazing highlight of the salad. Finished with Goat cheese, toasted almonds, arugula, balsamic glaze and basil oil to round on this fantastic start to our evening.

Our entree course continued the trip to flavor town with a Bone-In Prime Rib cut in the kitchen. WOW, this cut of meat is my favorite in town and might be the best i've ever had. Served with creamy horseradish and cooked to PERFECTION, this steak MELTS in your mouth. It keeps us coming back to share the behemoth every time. Of course, as Ribeyes with Fois Gras and Filets pas our table, we get a hint of jealousy for next time, but can't help but to always order the Prime Rib.
801 Chophouse Prime, Bone-in Prime Rib
Sides to accompany the prime rib tonight included sautéed spinach and Lobster Mac and Cheese, which was just divine. The spinach hits the spot for something "healthy" with a nice fresh garlic salt and pepper and hints of lemon. The Mac and Cheese is a show stopper. Great flavor all around. For Dessert, we finished off the night with a decadent steakhouse sized Cheese Cake
