The trendy LoHi neighborhood continues to grow and Daughter Thai & Bar is the perfect modern Thai restaurant that we needed to add to Denver. The space is hip and well designed, while also inviting and not too over bearing. The ambiance delivers on an appropriate feel, with a perfect lighting and music level to enjoy the cuisine.
The food and drinks are the stars of the show at Daughter. All of your favorite Thai dishes can be found here, but I would recommend that you go outside of your comfort zone and order something you might not have tried before. The menu is divided into 3 sections: Appetizers, Thai classics and Daughter's Kitchen- where you can find Chef Hardacre's modern creations. We loved everything that hit the table as well as wonderful service in the bar area.
The Food and Drink
We started by sharing the Sam-Yan platter, which had a combination of Vegetable Crispy Rolls, Pork Gyoza and Shrimp Money Bags served with 3 dipping sauces. Your typical Thai appetizer patter, but with more flavor than anywhere else I've been in Denver. We ate it so fast that we forgot to take pictures!
Next came the house specialty, Bangkok Ribs. Sweet, spiced Thai BBQ ribs that disappeared quickly (seen below).
For our Entree course, we shared 4 outstanding dishes. The Shrimp Pad Thai was the best I've had in Denver, hands down. The dish featured perfectly prepared noodles and prawns with crunchy peanuts and chives. We loved it with medium spice for a real kick. Pineapple Fried Rice with yellow curry power, cashews, chicken and prawns was next with unique spice and great flavor.
Prawn Pad Thai
Next to hit the table was our shared plates from the Daughter's section: Roti- Duck Curry served with jasmine rice and crispy basil. This combination of French and Thai cooking was a game changer. The duck was perfectly fall-off-the bone prepared and when mixed with either the roti or the rice, had amazing flavor. Next, deep fried whole Hybrid Strip Bass. While there are 2 preparations, we went with the server's recommendation of Daughter secret sauce which was a sweet chili sauce served with bell pepper, pineapple and crispy basil and white rice. The whole fish hit the table with a creative presentation and did not let us down. It was prepared well and the sauce accompanied the fish really well. It even came with some lettuce cups for creating a few wraps. The two main course share plates over-delivered on expectations across the board.

Let's not forget that it is called Daughter Thai & BAR. The cocktails are not to be missed while dining here. We had a couple drinks a piece. A favorite included the acclaimed Thai Fashioned, voted best cocktail on the menu, with peanut infused Bourbon with Thai green guava and bitters. It delivered a strong, sweet and romantic drink that I had to get 2 of. Another drink worth mentioning was the Daughter Smile- a tequila cocktail with fresh lime, ginger lemongrass and orange curacao that had a tart, yet delightful flavor.

Overall #daughterthaikitchenandbar is a Must Dine for lovers of Asian cuisine. Expect great service and food full of fresh ingredients and bursting with flavor. Bravo to Chef Ounjit Hardacre and thank you for choosing Denver for your new restaurant.
